SHE-HULK SCRIPTS READY TO GO AT MARVEL STUDIOS
According to a tweet from writer Dana Schwartz the writer's room for Marvel's She-Hulk series has completed the scripts for the series, meaning that show runners can now get on with completing the rest of pre-production. When actual production might start is anyone's guess of course, but at least we're moving forward.
PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN TO BE REBOOTED - CLICKBAITY SITES SUGGEST NEW STAR WE'D BE TOTALLY DOWN WITH
In the "Pure Speculation" section of the internet there are mutterings about the Pirates of the Carribean franchise being rebooted with - shock - a female lead. Fair enough. So long as they don't do something crass and obvious like calling her "Jackie Sparrow" there were a lot of female pirates, why not. No, that's not why we're highlighting it here.
No, we're mentioning the story here because those same "sources" are suggesting that one of the names in the frame to lead the rebooted franchise is former Doctor Who and current Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillen. This caught my attention because as part of preparation for a Geeks at the Gates recording I recently re-watched the not particularly good Doctor Who episode Curse of the Black Spot, whose only saving grace was Gillen's character Amy Pond running around being a pirate. So if there's even a grain of truth in this story we are 100% behind it.
SCOUT COMICS MAKES THE LEAP TO NEW US DISTRIBUTION
We reported yesterday that more publishers were looking at alternative distribution in the US. It seems that at least one has now decided to go for it, as Scout Comics has announced that it will be using another distributor. The problem for smaller publishers like Scout seems to be that not only is Diamond shut down when they need to move some product, but that when they do open up they will not initially be focusing on smaller publishers, meaning publishers like Scout might not have been shipping books until August.
Again, this has no bearing on what happens in the UK, where Diamond remains a monopoly distributor for new comics. But it's an indication that change - perhaps big change - might be coming.
DICK TURPIN
It's amazing what you can find on YouTube. Yesterday we gave you Richard Carpenter's Robin of Sherwood. Today (and we regret in slightly lower visual quality) we present some of Carpenter's earlier work Dick Turpin, another great weekend staple (IIRC Turpin was on Sunday evenings) from ITV.
