"A Solid Object to hit..." The Geeks at the Gates on the Radio - Shownotes for 10th December 2020

Notes for the episode initially broadcast on Thursday 10th December 2020.

We started with a brief discussion about Strictly Come Dancing. This discussion took place just after Movie Week - before Nicola Adams had to drop out because her partner tested positive for COVID-19.

We mentioned Bill Bailey and pro dancer Oti Mabusse's passo to the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. See below:

Come on. Tell me that wasn't brilliant.

With respect to the dancers, we universally hated the costumes for the Star Wars Passo danced by American Football star Jason Bell and pro dancer Luba Mushtuk:

Now. Two things really. Luba is clearly Rey, and that costume, although not perfect, will do. But what the heck is Jason wearing?! He's supposed to be Finn, but that makes no sense to the drama of the dance. (And it's a terrible Finn costume in any case...) The drama of the dance would have made much more sense if Jason had been dressed as Kylo Ren.

I really hope they didn't dress him as Finn just because he's a person of colour. I fear that they did...

Anyway. We then got down to the D&D action.

The party had found the researchers they had been looking for, rescued them from the clutches of some kind of snake cult and guided them out of the caverns into the surrounding jungle. Sensing no danger, they made camp and settled down to rest.

A "Long Rest" in D&D essentially is a re-set, as though the characters had enjoyed a full night's sleep.

Mention is made of D&D Beyond. If you want to know more about this fantastic game, check it out HERE.

That's it for this week - The Geeks at the Gates is back on Harrogate Community Radio nest week. Until then, be kind to yourself, be kind to everybody else, stay safe, stay geeky, until we meet again at the gates.
