Geeking with Destination Venus Episode #185: The Park and Barb Show - Shownotes
Yes, we didn't manage What's on the Rack this week, but the Geeking show goes on, and we have shownotes! Click on the image of Gun Street Girl (Art by Ryan Howe) below to go to the Download page or listen on HCR.
Barb mentioned a few things Regie introduced her to back in the nineties, including Terry Pratchett and Halo Jones, both of which have been covered at length on the show in the past. She also mentioned Alan Moore's D.R. & Quinch, a pair of 2000 A.D. characters who are not as well known as they should be.

Park mentioned "Mind the Oranges Marlon", a reference to the story D.R. & Quinch go to the Movies by Alan Moore and Alan Davis. The story involved the maniacal D.R. (real names Waldo Dobbs - don't ask...) accidentally directing a movie masterpiece, featuring the galaxy's greatest movie star, a guy called Marlon whose speech was unintelligible and who bore no resemblance whatsoever to a real person. Honest. At the climax of the story, this happens:

The conversation turned to Chris Claremont's X-Men run, specifically Days of Future Past and honestly I'd love to explain it to you but there is neither the time nor the space here. All I can say is that they are some of the finest superhero comics ever produced and you should run - not walk, RUN! - down to your local comics store and check them out.
Mention was also made of Sam Vimes, the Commander of the Ankh Morpork City Watch in Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, as well as the Characters Carrot and Angua. Again, we could try to explain these characters and stories but honestly, it would be faster (and more fun) to just read them. Start with Guards Guards!, the first of the "Watch" sequence of novels and go from there...
Finally, the kickstarter itself. Just click on the image of Gun Street Girl's central character Liz (Art by Ryan Howe) and go help make this awesome book happen!
