Geeks at the Gates Thought Bubble Specials Episode 2: Chatting with Alison Sampson

In our second GATG Thought Bubble Special, Regie chatted with artist Alison Sampson. Click the image below to go to the download page or search for The Geeks at the Gates wherever you get your podcasts.

We began by talking about Sleeping Beauties, adapted from the novel by Stephen and Owen King.

Alison mentioned that she was part of a panel for Thought Bubble exploring the complex process of adaptation - check out the Thought Bubble schedule HERE.

Alison mentioned that there is "not a great deal of fridging" in the novel Sleeping Beauties. If you're unfamiliar with the term, it is used to describe the practice of killing off or hurting a minor character in order to motivate or torture a main character. The term comes from the world of comics, describing an issue of Green Lantern in which the hero's partner is killed and stuffed in a refrigerator for the protagonist to find. This led to writer Gail Simone to set up the website Women in Refrigerators. (The site was set up in 1999, so if you follow the link be ready for some late nineties internet aesthetics...)

Then that was about it, so far as things that need notes - Alison explained everything pretty much in the conversation.

You can check out more of Alison's work, and check out her shop (which as promised during the chat is now fully stocked) HERE.

So, that's it for now. Our D&D Adventure will continue in a separate podcast later this week.
